The project grows virtually up from a topological deformation of the path moving metro flows directly inside the hypermarket Auchan-Marconi.
The design of the Auchan light metro station in Cagliari, has origin from ethics, philosophy and design consideration, resulting from contemporary society and, strongly, from Imagine, Information and Communication.
As information society requires; speed, variety, contamination, autonomy, optimism, elusiveness, as standards of our time, which give the need of the prior essence with immagination and then with essence’s structure; that’s why the image is designed as major characteristic of a place which wants to be as a lighthouse, a sculpture, an emotion, capturing and transporting; the designed architectural feature becomes, in this way, spatially recognisable, unique and strongly characterising context, with references to the place, such as the green space, the use of metal alloys as silos, the new swimming pool, the railroad, architecture as restoring oasis, used as a place for gathering, relax and “fast coffee”; architecture as symbol of a sperimental contemporary, which virtually brings Sardinia to a potential hug with the rest of the world; architecture as mark and recognisability of Auchan at an international level, leading to Imagine’s consequences.
Future clients and visitors are going to see also multimedial panels with commercial images, from their arrival at Auchan-Marconi station, and with acoustic signals into the system of metro management. Communication, understood as natural human feature wanting to convey meanings which overboard apparence of things, questioning to surrounding compression and to the reasons which have bring its existence.
That’s why an architecture, as this one, has an added value no small matter, because it breaks into the thinking and it brings to an incisive reflection about place and a following recognisability of space and time. This, in project’s imaginery, wants to be the key point of reflection about the designed station value, which communicates before existing. Gradually, it is developing in the flow of things and in perception of an alterated space, resulting a different vision of shopping center, not as sterile and global reality, but as local and characterised fact.
